The AC Surge Protection Device (SPD), also known as a surge suppressor or surge arrester, is designed to protect low voltage AC power systems from transient overvoltage caused by lightning strikes and switching surges.
It is suitable for TN-S, TN-C-S, TT and IT earthing systems operating at 50/60Hz and below 380V AC. The device effectively diverts surge energy to earth, protecting sensitive electrical and solar PV equipment from damage.
In the event of overheating or overcurrent leading to failure, the integrated thermal disconnection mechanism safely isolates the SPD from the power supply system and provides a clear status indication signal. The pluggable module design allows safe replacement while the base remains connected in Solar PV installations.
