The TRS3 Series 2 Pole Type 1+2 DC Photovoltaic Surge Protection Device is designed to protect solar PV installations from transient over voltages caused by lightning strikes and switching events within the electrical network. Installed on the DC side of a solar system, it prevents surge energy from reaching sensitive equipment such as inverters, monitoring devices, and PV arrays.
Photovoltaic systems, especially large rooftop or utility scale installations, are highly exposed to lightning and electrical disturbances. Without proper protection, these surges can cause equipment failure, downtime, and costly repairs. The TRS3 series SPD helps minimise these risks by rapidly diverting surge currents safely to earth before they can damage the system.
The device uses high-performance MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) technology that remains inactive during normal operation but reacts instantly when an over-voltage occurs. When a surge is detected, the SPD switches to a low impedance path, safely discharging the surge current and restoring normal conditions once the disturbance passes.
Designed specifically for DC photovoltaic systems, the TRS3 series supports multiple PV voltage levels including 500V, 600V, 800V, 1000V, 1200V and up to 1500V DC, making it suitable for modern solar installations and utility scale PV plants.
Its compact plug in modular design allows for easy installation on a 35 mm DIN rail, while the visual fault indicator and optional remote signalling contact enable quick monitoring and maintenance if the protection module needs replacement.
